BBVA Faces €181.8 Million Fine Over Spying Scandal Involvement Spain's anti-corruption prosecutor is seeking a fine of 181.8 million euros ($208.16 million) against BBVA over its alleged involvement in a spying scandal involving former police commissioner Jose Manuel Villarejo. The scandal, which has affected several Spanish companies, involves illegal assignments between 2004 and 2016. BBVA acknowledged hiring the agency but found no evidence of spying. Former BBVA chairman Francisco Gonzalez, who denies wrongdoing, faces a potential 173-year sentence, though it could be limited to 15 years. The High Court has yet to open the trial, marking a first for top corporate executives in such cases.
