HSBC's System Outage Disrupts Banking Services, HKMA Orders Review HSBC experienced a widespread system outage on Friday due to an internal computer failure, not a cyberattack, as confirmed by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). The disruption affected online banking services from around 1pm, with some branches also impacted. Services at the Mong Kok branch resumed by 3:08pm, and by 6pm, all online and mobile banking services were back to normal. The HKMA instructed HSBC to conduct a review to address the issue and prevent future occurrences.
