BNP Paribas Ordered to Pay $20M for Sudan Genocide Involvement A New York federal jury has ordered French bank BNP Paribas to pay $20 million to three Sudanese refugees, finding the bank liable for facilitating the genocide committed by former Islamist dictator Omar al-Bashir against Black African civilians in Sudan. This 2025 civil verdict arises from the same underlying conduct as BNP Paribas’s 2014 U.S. sanctions case, in which the bank admitted processing Sudan-related transactions that enabled the Bashir regime’s atrocities.
